Why these houses, and no others

We do not stock home fragrance by the shelf-full. We choose the makers whose work rewards attention, then go deep into their range so you can find the note, the size and the ritual that suits your home rather than wade through everything at once.

The eye matters as much as the nose. A candle sits in a room all day whether it is lit or not, so we look for vessels and objects worth keeping, glass that becomes a jar, terracotta that ages, a coffret you would leave out on a table. Fewer things, chosen well, is the whole idea.

Questions, answered

How long does a Trudon candle burn?

The 70g Petit runs eighteen to twenty hours, the 270g Classic fifty-five to sixty, the 800g Intermezzo a hundred and ten to a hundred and twenty on three wicks, and the 3kg Great over two hundred on five. Trudon has been pouring wax since 1643 and the glass is mouth blown, so it is kept and reused once the wax is gone.

What is pot pourri and how does it differ from a candle?

It is the older way to scent a room. Santa Maria Novella has made theirs in Florence since the 1600s, from flowers and herbs cured slowly. No flame, so it holds a soft constant note in a hallway, a wardrobe or a bathroom where a candle would never be left burning. A few drops of their essence refreshes it.

How do I choose across candles, sprays and pot pourri?

By the room and the hour. A candle is for the evening and a moment of attention. A room spray resets a space in seconds before people arrive. Pot pourri and scented terracotta hold a quiet permanent note where a flame is not practical. If you are starting, the 270g Classic is the place.
