Why I brought Matière Première into our fragrance world
Fragrance came to Amelie & Frank's as an experience rather than a shelf of bottles. I wanted independent master perfumers chosen for their craft and not their marketing, people who work in the Polperro spirit of restraint, of a site and a season held in a bottle.
Matière Première is one of those independent masters. The house was founded in 2019 by Aurélien Guichard, who comes from a Grasse perfumery family and has spent more than twenty years composing scent. The name means raw material, and that is exactly the point. One natural ingredient, understood deeply, given the whole stage.
What moved me is that he grows what he works with. Near Grasse the house tends Ecocert fields planted with twelve thousand centifolia rose trees, alongside tuberose and lavender, and follows a farm to bottle way of working. You can smell that closeness to the source. It is fewer things, chosen well, and it belongs here.
