Ormaie, and the case for restraint

I have loved fragrance my whole life. Its history, its language, the psychology and craftsmanship of it, and the way a scent can carry you somewhere else entirely. I wanted to bring fragrance to Amelie & Frank's as an experience rather than a shelf of bottles, which means choosing houses I genuinely trust.

Ormaie is one of those houses. It was founded in Paris in 2018 by Marie-Lise Jonak and her son Baptiste Bouygues, a mother and son who chose to build their perfumes entirely from natural materials, with no synthetics and no animal extracts. They sit deliberately outside the big marketing-led groups, which is exactly why I look for houses like this.

The name means a grove of elm trees, and the care shows in the object itself: a twelve-sided glass bottle finished with a wooden cap, hand-polished, from an ethically managed forest. It is the same principle Polperro brings to wine. Restraint, respect for the land and the patience to tell the story of a place in a bottle.

Ormaie, in short

Who is Ormaie?

Ormaie is an independent Paris perfume house founded in 2018 by Marie-Lise Jonak and her son Baptiste Bouygues. It is a family maison that works outside the large fragrance groups, with Jonak as creative director translating the stories behind each scent into perfume alongside its perfumers.

What is Ormaie known for?

Ormaie is known for building its eaux de parfum entirely from natural materials, working with essential oils, absolutes and waxes rather than synthetics or animal extracts. It is equally recognised for the object itself, a twelve-sided glass bottle finished with a hand-polished wooden cap.

Questions, answered

Where is Ormaie made?

Ormaie is a French house. It is imagined in Paris and its perfumes are produced in France, in Grasse and Marseille, from natural materials.

Are Ormaie perfumes really all natural?

Yes. Ormaie composes its perfumes entirely from natural materials, using essential oils, absolutes and concretes, with no synthetics and no animal-derived ingredients.

Which size should I choose, 50ml or 100ml?

Choose 50ml to discover a scent or to keep more than one in rotation, and 100ml when you have found a signature you wear often. The fragrance is identical in both, so the decision is simply how much you expect to reach for it.

What does the name Ormaie mean?

Ormaie means a grove of elm trees in French. The name is personal to the founders and reflects their wish to plant elms as the species declines across France.

Does Amelie & Frank's ship Ormaie Australia-wide?

Yes. We offer complimentary shipping Australia-wide, and you are always welcome to discover Ormaie in person at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula.
