Europe did not know sandalwood until an Englishman, Edward Foxhall, found it on the Isle of Pines in New Caledonia in 1840. Tadine is Trudon's account of that discovery.
Freshly crushed cardamom at the top. Sandalwood essential oil in the heart. Guaiac wood at the base, creamy and faintly floral. The house sets it between maritime pines and clear water, so there is air in it as well as wood.
It belongs to Les Belles Matières. Vegetable wax on a cotton wick, in glass made by hand in Tuscany, for fifty-five to sixty hours. Light it when you come in from a winter walk on an empty back beach, salt still in your hair and the house cold.
