Cire is the Trudon workshop itself: warm wax and perfumes being made, in the house's description. Bergamot, honey and waxed wood at the top. Beeswax absolute, sandalwood and cinnamon in the heart. Tonka, patchouli, musk and vanilla underneath. The other Trudon candles on our shelf are places or people. This one smells of its own making.
It comes in amber glass, the colour chosen for the bees of Trudon's seventeenth-century motto: Deo regique laborant, they work for God and the King. Since 2019 four per cent of Cire sales have gone to a conservatory for the dark bee of the Orne. The glass is made in Vinci in Tuscany, with its small bubbles left in. Emptied, the amber glass makes a warm votive around a tea light.
