Why we opened with Trudon

When I began Amelie & Frank's I wanted to open with the houses that genuinely lead their craft in the world, not the ones with the loudest marketing. In room scent that house was Trudon, so it became one of our very first pillar brands almost ten years ago.

Trudon has been making candles in France since 1643, which makes it the oldest candlemaker in the world. It supplied the court of Louis XIV and lit the halls of Versailles, and it still hand pours its wax into that mouth-blown green glass today.

What we are really offering here is the feeling of a beautifully scented room. The fragrances are composed in Grasse and the glass is made to be kept long after the wax is gone. It is exactly the kind of quiet considered luxury we built Amelie & Frank's around.

Where is Trudon made?

Trudon is made in France. Its candles are hand poured and its fragrances are composed in Grasse, the historic heart of French perfumery, continuing a craft the house has practised since 1643.

What size Trudon candle should I choose?

Start with the 70g Petit if you are learning a scent, which gives eighteen to twenty hours. The 270g Classic is the signature format at fifty-five to sixty hours. The 800g Intermezzo runs three wicks and 110 to 120 hours for a larger room, and the 3kg Great runs five wicks and over two hundred hours. Diffusers and room sprays scent a space without a flame.

How do I get the most out of a Trudon candle?

Burn it until the whole surface has melted, every time. If you blow it out early in the first few burns the wax tunnels down the middle and you lose a third of the candle to the sides. Trim the wick before and after, and burn three hours at a time during the first third.

What is the Trudon Christmas collection?

Trudon releases a Christmas collection each year with its own artwork and gilding, and it does not return once the season is over. It arrives with us ahead of the season and sells through, so it is worth taking early if there is one you want.

Can the Trudon glass be reused?

Yes. The mouth-blown green glass is made to be kept and reused as a vase or vessel once the wax is finished, which is part of why we love it. A little warm water lifts the last of the wax so the glass can begin a second life.
