Vilagallo was founded in Spain in 1997. Its design team works between Madrid and Piacenza in northern Italy. That split explains the clothes. The energy is Mediterranean and the textile knowledge is Italian.
The prints and embroidery are the house's own. A fried egg finishes a sentence across the shoulders of a white blazer. A watering can sits on embroidered denim, because como una regadera is Spanish for being a little mad. Palm trees, a pink scooter and Dance first, think later are drawn over ivory linen.
Under the jokes the work is serious. Production is entirely European, collections are made in limited editions and every garment is checked on its own before it leaves. The shapes are classic blazers and straight trousers, with the detail placed where a plainer house would leave it out: a frill of stripe on a pocket, four coloured buttons at a hip.
I brought Vilagallo to Red Hill because good humour in clothes is rare and harder still to do well. A joke on a poorly made jacket wears thin in a week. On a properly cut blazer it is the thing people ask about across the table. The jacket still holds its line.

What is Vilagallo sizing in Australian sizes?
Vilagallo uses Spanish sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes, so a Vilagallo 36 is an AU 6, 38 an AU 8, 40 an AU 10, 42 an AU 12, 44 an AU 14 and 46 an AU 16. The house chart runs to a 50, which is an AU 20.
Does Vilagallo run true to size?
Vilagallo publishes one body-measurement chart for every style and no separate fit advice. Read your size from the chart rather than from the number you wear in French labels, because a Vilagallo 38 is one size smaller than a French 38. If you sit between two sizes, write to us and we will measure the piece.
What are the Vilagallo body measurements?

How do I care for Vilagallo?
Follow the label sewn into each piece. On the house's own pages, blazers and jackets are ironed at a low temperature, maximum 110 degrees, never bleached or tumble dried. They are dry cleanable. Shirts and trousers carry the same instructions plus a wash at a maximum of 30 degrees.
