The name is ebony. The wood at the centre is cabreuva, an oil from Brazil. Aurélien Guichard chose to strengthen it, not soften it.
Matière Première calls Bois d'Ébène a patchwork of dark amber woods, with textures from all over the world. Patchouli from Indonesia adds density to the cabreuva. Cypriol oil from India pulls out its amber side. Juniper berry lays a fresh, spiced edge across the top.
It goes deep and stays dark. Nothing about it is rustic. One raw material at the centre and everything else in its service: the Matière Première method at its plainest.
