Incense usually gets written as darkness. Aurélien Guichard wrote this one as depth, which is a different thing entirely.

Somalian incense resin at overdose, held up by Andalusian labdanum. The resin carries the smoke and the labdanum carries the warmth, and neither is allowed to tip the whole thing into gothic.

It smells like a cool stone room rather than like a church, and that distinction is the fragrance.
