Pauline Deltour designed the Éteignoirs for Trudon as a pair of objects, a sphere and a cylinder. This is the sphere. A thin brass hook reaches out from it to press a lit wick down into the molten wax.
The flame goes out without smoke. Blowing a candle out sends up a thread of burnt wick that hangs in the room after the scent of the candle has gone. Dipping avoids it and the wick is neither pinched nor smothered.
Lift the wick back out while the wax is still soft and set it straight in the centre. It comes up coated in wax and lights cleanly next time. Deltour also designed La Promeneuse, Trudon's cameo diffuser.
