The pattern on the green label was signed by Giorgio Ugo Stefani, a perfumer at the Officina in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The water inside is five centuries older than his label.
Acqua di Rose is attested at the Officina from 1381, among the oldest documented preparations of a house founded by Dominican friars in Florence, officially opened to the public in 1612 and widely recognised as one of the world's oldest pharmacies. It is distilled damask rose water, Rosa damascena, with a little fragrance and preservative added. There are no oils in it and nothing to rinse off.
After cleansing, morning and evening, from a cotton pad or straight from the hands, patted onto the face and neck before moisturiser. The house describes it as toning and refreshing, for all skin types. It is the simplest preparation in the range and one of the oldest.
