The scent is Acqua della Regina. Caterina de' Medici commissioned it in 1533 for her marriage to Henry, Duke of Orléans, the future Henry II of France. Her perfumer was Renato Bianco, raised by the Dominican friars at Santa Maria Novella. The Officina counts it among its oldest documented compositions and files it as hesperidic and aromatic: citrus and petitgrain, neroli, musk.
The gel is built on plant-based surfactants with lemon pulp extract, so the lemon is in the formula as well as the scent. It goes onto the body or a sponge, is worked in circles for a few minutes and rinsed. The Acqua della Regina Fluid Body Cream follows it. The eau de cologne goes last.
