An oversized cotton shirt is the hardest simple garment to get right, because there is nothing in it except the pattern.

Mos The Label kept the Wanderer to its working parts. A button front, a proper collar and real cuffs, cut generous through the body so it sits well untucked. Nothing decorative anywhere on it.

Dusty clay is a muted brown with pink in it. Over silk trousers it reads as evening. Over denim it does not.

It is the shirt that gets worn most and noticed least.

MOS The Label is a Sydney label and cuts in Australian sizes, which are the same as UK sizes. Pieces in letter sizes convert on the house chart: an XS is an AU 6, S an AU 8, M an AU 10, L an AU 12, XL an AU 14 and XXL an AU 16. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Choosing between two sizes

The house publishes body measurements rather than general fit advice. It gives its model's so you can compare. She is 170cm with an 82cm bust, 62cm waist and 92cm hip. She wears an 8. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, arms down.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the waistline.
Hip: around the widest part, legs together.

Caring for MOS The Label

The house recommends a cold hand wash or a cold gentle machine cycle to make each piece last. The care label sewn into the piece has the specific instructions.
