Mes Demoiselles say the Micasso started with art and the print reads that way, brushwork running the full length of the dress. The more important decision is the seam.

The volume is released from just below the bust. Released that high, a long printed dress falls in one piece to the hem instead of turning into a tent. The print never has to work around a waist. The cloth is 100% viscose, so the length moves rather than holds. The sleeves sit off the shoulder, the panels are cut deconstructed and there is a V at the front and another at the back.

Nothing is fitted below the bust, which is why the shape suits a wide range of figures. The V at the back gives the back view as much as the front. The Orma is the softer counterpart we carry, released from the same place but in a lined tie and dye check.

Mes Demoiselles is a Paris house and labels its pieces in one of two ways: in French sizes, 34 to 44, or in its own sizes 0, 1 and 2, each of which covers two French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes, so read across to the UK column of the house chart. A French 36 is an AU 8 and a French 38 an AU 10. A house 0 is an AU 6 to 8, a 1 an AU 10 to 12 and a 2 an AU 14 to 16. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Choosing between two sizes

Mes Demoiselles publishes one chart for every style and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. A French number is two below the Australian one: a French 38 is an AU 10. Where a piece comes in house sizes, each covers two French sizes, so a 1 takes in both an AU 10 and an AU 12. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Chest: around the widest point of the chest and shoulder blades, arms hanging by your sides.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the waist, the tape snug but not tight.
Hip: around the widest point of the hips.
