The fabric has been crushed and dyed so the colour runs in streaks, sand in some lights and olive in others. The creases are meant to stay. That one decision does most of the work: nothing about the Covial needs pressing before it goes out.

Mes Demoiselles cut it very wide and very long, with pleats at the front and a waistband that sits flat in front and is elasticated at the back. Threaded through the belt loops is a fine chain hung with coloured charms and small tassels, the bohemian detail the Paris house is known for.

All the volume sits below the waist, which is why the house shows it with a fitted silk cami tucked in.

  • Colour: beige, crinkled marble dye
  • Wide leg, front pleats, front pockets
  • Waistband flat at the front, elasticated at the back
  • Chain belt with charms and tassels
  • French sizes 36 to 42

Mes Demoiselles is a Paris house and labels its pieces in one of two ways: in French sizes, 34 to 44, or in its own sizes 0, 1 and 2, each of which covers two French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes, so read across to the UK column of the house chart. A French 36 is an AU 8 and a French 38 an AU 10. A house 0 is an AU 6 to 8, a 1 an AU 10 to 12 and a 2 an AU 14 to 16. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Measurements in centimetres. Body measurements, not garment measurements. The French column is the size on most labels; pieces in house sizes are labelled 0, 1 or 2.

Choosing between two sizes

Mes Demoiselles publishes one chart for every style and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. A French number is two below the Australian one: a French 38 is an AU 10. Where a piece comes in house sizes, each covers two French sizes, so a 1 takes in both an AU 10 and an AU 12. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Chest: around the widest point of the chest and shoulder blades, arms hanging by your sides.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the waist, the tape snug but not tight.
Hip: around the widest point of the hips.

Caring for Mes Demoiselles

The care label sewn into each piece is the authority. On the house's cotton dresses it reads: hand wash only, do not tumble dry, iron gently.
