Mes Demoiselles Balma Silk Slip Dress, Nude

Mes Demoiselles call the Balma a dress and describe it as a long top. Both are right. The side slits run deep enough that it can be worn alone or over wide trousers, which is how the house styles it.

It is 100% silk crepe de chine, cut straight and long on fine adjustable straps. Tone-on-tone lace traces the neckline and runs down each side into the slits. In nude, silk and lace are the same shade, so the detail only shows when light moves across it.

Over wide trousers in the same colour the slits turn it into a single column. On its own with a flat sandal it is a slip dress for a hot night.

Lunch outside on the first properly warm day of November, when a dress has to be cool and still look as though you dressed.
