Most slips stop at the knee and ask to be worn alone. The Balma runs long with side slits cut deep, because Mes Demoiselles meant it to go over trousers as readily as on its own.

It is 100% silk crepe de chine. Crepe de chine is woven from tightly twisted yarns, which gives it a fine grain and lets it fall straight without clinging. Tone-on-tone lace runs along the neckline and down both sides, on fine adjustable straps. Over a wide trouser it reads as one long line and the trouser shows only when you walk.

Worn alone it is a long, simple slip. Lace in the same colour as the silk keeps it quiet across a room and interesting up close. The Barry camisole is the same silk and lace cut to sit just below the hip, for anyone who wants the idea shorter. The Balma also comes in nude.
