Between ridge and furrow the yellow shifts a shade. That is the rib catching the light. On a colour this strong it is the difference between a flat yellow and one with depth.

Mes Demoiselles cut the Singa from corduroy woven in 80% viscose and 20% lyocell. Cotton cord holds its own shape. This one takes the shape of the leg and moves with it, which is why a yellow this bright never looks stiff. Gathers at the waist give the volume and a structured waistband controls it. The side pockets are real.

It goes with navy or chocolate. Black flattens it. The purple pair is the darker route to the same trouser.

April, when the morning starts at nine degrees and the afternoon finds twenty. The cord is warm enough for the first and light enough for the second.

Mes Demoiselles is a Paris house and labels its pieces in one of two ways: in French sizes, 34 to 44, or in its own sizes 0, 1 and 2, each of which covers two French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes, so read across to the UK column of the house chart. A French 36 is an AU 8 and a French 38 an AU 10. A house 0 is an AU 6 to 8, a 1 an AU 10 to 12 and a 2 an AU 14 to 16. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Choosing between two sizes

Mes Demoiselles publishes one chart for every style and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. A French number is two below the Australian one: a French 38 is an AU 10. Where a piece comes in house sizes, each covers two French sizes, so a 1 takes in both an AU 10 and an AU 12. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Chest: around the widest point of the chest and shoulder blades, arms hanging by your sides.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the waist, the tape snug but not tight.
Hip: around the widest point of the hips.
