Most florals stop at the flowers. Madeleine puts a hide underneath them.
Trudon named it for Madeleine de Maupin, in the house's words an accomplished horsewoman, fencer and renowned seventeenth-century dissident. Émilie Bouge composed it to match. She trained at ISIPCA and spent years in Asia. It shows in how readily she reaches for animal and resin. Iris, jasmine and rose dress their petals in leather, which is Trudon's line and the right one.
The opening is where the character comes from. Castoreum, clove and lavender at the top, animal and spiced before a single petal arrives. Iris, jasmine, rose and vetiver in the heart. Leather, moss, patchouli and tobacco underneath. The flowers never get the room to themselves. Joséphine is the floral we carry that leaves them alone. Ernesto is the leather and tobacco with no flowers at all. Madeleine sits between the two.
Fifty-five to sixty hours on a cotton wick, poured in Normandy into glass from Vinci shaped after a champagne bucket. The wick is straightened by hand as the wax sets. Burnt down, the glass holds the make-up brushes on a dressing table.
