Lana Wilkinson Harley Heel, Black Mesh

Mesh holds a foot without covering it. On the Harley it runs over a pointed toe and stops at a small velvet toe cap, which covers the tip, the part of a pointed shoe that takes the knocks.

Lana Wilkinson sets it on a 10.5 centimetre stiletto and finishes the back with a single elasticated slingback strap. Nothing else. The label's own reasoning is that a minimal slingback lengthens the leg. With this much of the foot showing through, it does.

In black the mesh looks like a shadow over the skin, not a pattern. Leather trims the edges where the mesh ends. For dinner in town on a hot summer night, the mesh lets the air through where a closed pump would hold the heat.
