Egypt carries the earliest date Eight & Bob gives any of its fragrances. The house says Albert Fouquet composed it in 1935, inspired by ancient Egypt, two years before the summer that gave the company its name.
It starts with lavender, lemon and moss, which is the opening of a classic fougère. Cardamom and nutmeg warm the middle. Leather, patchouli and sandalwood take it down into the base. The house calls the result warm and earthy. It files it under woods.
The spices are what carry it from the barbershop toward the marketplace the house describes. Without the cardamom and nutmeg it would be a clean, familiar thing. With them it has somewhere to go.
