Trudon Abd El Kader Great Candle 2.8kg

$929.00

Eighteen centimetres across and five flames at once. At that size the mint, ginger and clove at the top of Abd El Kader stop being a first impression and become the air in the room.

It is Trudon's Moroccan mint tea, named for the emir who led the Algerian resistance to the French conquest. Blackcurrant bud, lemon, clove, ginger, mint and apple open it. Jasmine is the heart. Vanilla sits underneath.

The Great Candle is poured at the Trudon workshop in Normandy into glass from Vinci in Tuscany, finished by hand, 21.5 centimetres high. It burns for more than two hundred hours. The house says it can be staged outside as well as in.

Trudon cuts each wick to a set height for the first burn. After that each wants trimming to half a centimetre. Wick stoppers put the flame out when they show, so the last three centimetres of wax stay in the glass. Once those last three centimetres are cleaned out, the glass makes an ice bucket.
