Christian Kimber Ice Cotton Short Sleeve Polo, Optic White

White is the hardest version of the easiest garment. There is nothing for the eye to land on but the cut and the collar.

Ice cotton is spun in Italy from long-staple fibre twisted under high tension. The tension pulls the surface flat and leaves almost nothing standing up off the yarn, so more of the cloth meets skin at once and heat moves away from it faster. That is the cold first contact. The same flatness is why it comes out of a bag without a crease in it. The feel is in the construction rather than in a finish, so there is nothing on it to wash out.

Christian Kimber knits it and makes it in Italy, cut short in the sleeve with a collar that stands on its own. Optic white rather than cream, so it reads as a decision.

The first properly warm Saturday. Lunch at a cellar door that begins at one and is still going at six.
