A soft cloth needs somewhere to fall from. On the Wilna that is a shoulder pad, set under a ruffled yoke.

The pad gives the shoulder a line and the rest of the shirt hangs loose from it. A classic collar and button placket keep it recognisable as a shirt. Large tapered cuffs weight the sleeve at the wrist, so the sleeve falls straight rather than bunching. ba&sh make it in Tunisia, in polyester that contains recycled fibres. The cloth is light, which is why the pad is needed at all.

Greige is the warm cream between beige and grey. The point of this shirt is the shoulder and a colour with an opinion would compete with it. Next to the Camila, which gathers at every edge, the Wilna makes one decision and leaves the rest alone. It is the easier of the two to put under a jacket, as long as the jacket has room in the shoulder.

ba&sh is a Paris house and labels most pieces in its own sizes, 0 to 4, with trousers in French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes. The house publishes the conversion: a ba&sh 0 is an AU 6, 1 an AU 8, 2 an AU 10, 3 an AU 12 and 4 an AU 14. In French sizes, a 36 is an AU 8 and a 38 an AU 10. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
