The belt sets the waist. A wide structured band with eyelets and a sliding fastening puts it wherever you decide, not where a button happens to land.

ba&sh cut the Pavana in 100% TENCEL Lyocell, made from wood pulp from sustainably managed forests in a closed-loop process. It is made in Morocco. Lyocell falls in a line rather than holding a shape, so a relaxed straight leg hangs close and does not stand away from you. The zip is concealed at the centre front. Large patch pockets with geometric outlines do the decorating at the front, with plainer patch pockets behind.

Of the three ba&sh trousers we carry it sits in the middle. The Cary is the tailored one. The Celia is cut oversized and gathered at the waist. The Pavana takes utility proportions and puts them in a cloth with none of the stiffness utility usually brings.

Carbone is charcoal, dark enough to stand in for black and softer than black against a knit.

ba&sh is a Paris house and labels most pieces in its own sizes, 0 to 4, with trousers in French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes. The house publishes the conversion: a ba&sh 0 is an AU 6, 1 an AU 8, 2 an AU 10, 3 an AU 12 and 4 an AU 14. In French sizes, a 36 is an AU 8 and a 38 an AU 10. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Size chart

ba&sh AU / UK French US Italy Bust Waist Hip

1 8 36 S 40 86 68 93
2 10 38 M 42 91 73 98
3 12 40 L 44 96 78 103
4 14 42 XL 46 101 83 108

Measurements in centimetres. Body measurements, not garment measurements. Trousers labelled 34 to 42 follow the French column.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
