The Isaac has no fixed front. The V can sit at the front or at the back, so the buttons run down your chest or down your spine depending on which way it goes on. They deliberately do not match.

Amande is almond with green in it, pale enough to sit beside black or ecru without taking a side. The knit is 30% mohair and 30% alpaca with 40% polyamide, made in Italy at a fine 12 gauge in purl stitch. Hair fibres knitted that fine give the halo without the weight. Polyamide is the largest share, which is worth knowing before you buy. This is a light, airy cardigan rather than a dense one. It is warm in the way a layer is warm, not the way a coat is.

It is short and relaxed, with loose sleeves. We carry it in khaki too, which is the darker and quieter of the two. Amande is the one against the Celia cargo in khaki, where it stops an outfit reading as one idea.

Winter down here is spent inside near a fire. A fire makes a room too warm for a coat by the second glass. The Isaac comes off, sits over the back of a chair and goes back on when someone opens the door.

ba&sh is a Paris house and labels most pieces in its own sizes, 0 to 4, with trousers in French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes. The house publishes the conversion: a ba&sh 0 is an AU 6, 1 an AU 8, 2 an AU 10, 3 an AU 12 and 4 an AU 14. In French sizes, a 36 is an AU 8 and a 38 an AU 10. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Size chart

ba&sh AU / UK French US Italy Bust Waist Hip
0 6 34 XS 38 81 63 88
1 8 36 S 40 86 68 93
2 10 38 M 42 91 73 98
3 12 40 L 44 96 78 103
4 14 42 XL 46 101 83 108

Measurements in centimetres. Body measurements, not garment measurements. Trousers labelled 34 to 42 follow the French column.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
