In 2003 Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief opened their first boutique on the rue des Saints-Pères in Paris. ba&sh print that year on the Ioni inside a laurel wreath, the way a college prints the year it was founded.

Rouge is a brick red, warmer than a true red, with the crest in white. The tee is made in Portugal from organic cotton and cut boxy, finishing a little short, so it sits at the waistband of a high-rise jean.

It is the boldest of the five colours we bought and the only one that wants nothing else bright near it.

ba&sh is a Paris house and labels most pieces in its own sizes, 0 to 4, with trousers in French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes. The house publishes the conversion: a ba&sh 0 is an AU 6, 1 an AU 8, 2 an AU 10, 3 an AU 12 and 4 an AU 14. In French sizes, a 36 is an AU 8 and a 38 an AU 10. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
