From across a room the bleu reads as watercolour. Only up close does it turn out to be python and leopard, layered in blues over an ecru ground.

The cut is the same as the kaki. A slip on fine gold chain straps, a V neck, a low back and a skirt to mid calf. ba&sh make it in Morocco in polyester, which holds a print this detailed without blurring. The pale ground sits well against a tan.

It is the gentler of the two Catelinas we bought. With a flat sandal or a low wedge it is a day dress. With a heel it goes on into the evening without anyone noticing it was ever anything else.

Summer weddings here start in a paddock and end under a marquee. The shoes change somewhere in between. The dress does not have to.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
