Every detail on the Camila is a gather of some kind. The stand-up collar is gathered into a ruffle. The shoulders are smocked into panels and finished with piping. Elastic at the cuff pulls a balloon sleeve into a second ruffle.

ba&sh cut it in polyester with recycled fibres in it. It is made in China. For this much construction the cloth is the right call, because a synthetic holds a gather where a softer natural fibre lets it fall by lunchtime. The sleeve is still a balloon at the end of the day. The cost is breath. Polyester does not move air the way cotton does, so this is a shirt for a mild day rather than a hot one.

The body is loose and buttons through, which keeps the volume at the shoulders and arms. Khaki here is an olive. It is what stops all that gathering reading as sweet. The Wilna puts its whole argument into one padded shoulder. The Camila spreads it across collar, yoke and cuff. It asks for plain trousers underneath.

ba&sh is a Paris house and labels most pieces in its own sizes, 0 to 4, with trousers in French sizes. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes. The house publishes the conversion: a ba&sh 0 is an AU 6, 1 an AU 8, 2 an AU 10, 3 an AU 12 and 4 an AU 14. In French sizes, a 36 is an AU 8 and a 38 an AU 10. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Size chart

ba&sh AU / UK French US Italy Bust Waist Hip
0 6 34 XS 38 81 63 88
1 8 36 S 40 86 68 93
2 10 38 M 42 91 73 98
3 12 40 L 44 96 78 103
4 14 42 XL 46 101 83 108

Measurements in centimetres. Body measurements, not garment measurements. Trousers labelled 34 to 42 follow the French column.

Choosing between two sizes

ba&sh publishes one chart and no separate fit advice, so read your size from your measurements. The house number sits well below the Australian one: a ba&sh 1 is an AU 8 and a 2 an AU 10. Any style we know to run differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, the tape straight and taut.
Waist: around the narrowest part of the natural waistline, above the navel and below the ribcage.
Hip: around the lowest and fullest part of the hip.
