Second Female Size Guide

Second Female is cut in Copenhagen to European sizing. Australian sizes are the same as UK sizes, so the UK column is your Australian size: a Second Female M is a UK and AU 10, an EU 38. The measurements below are the house's own, in centimetres, taken from the body rather than the garment.

Size chart

Size AU / UK EU Bust Waist Hip
XS 6 34 81 to 85 63 to 67 89 to 93
S 8 36 85 to 89 67 to 71 93 to 97
M 10 38 89 to 93 71 to 75 97 to 101
L 12 40 93 to 97 75 to 79 101 to 105
XL 14 42 97 to 101 79 to 83 105 to 109

Measurements in centimetres. Body measurements, not garment measurements.

Choosing between two sizes

Most Second Female styles are true to size. Fitted styles and structured fabrics are the exception, and there the house recommends the larger size. Relaxed shapes and knits with give can take the smaller one. Blazers and jackets want a little room across the shoulders and bust. Any style that runs differently is noted in its Fit line.

How to measure

Bust: around the fullest part, tape level across the back.
Waist: around the narrowest part, usually just above the navel.
Hip: around the fullest part, feet together.
Inseam: from the top of the inside leg down to the ankle.

Caring for Second Female

Wool, alpaca and mohair knits: hand wash, or a gentle wool cycle with wool detergent. Dry flat. Store folded, never on a hanger.

Leather: wipe with a damp cloth. Condition regularly so it does not dry out. Keep it away from heat and direct sun.

Cotton: wash cold and gently. Air dry to keep the shape and avoid shrinkage.

Denim: wash sparingly and inside out to protect the colour. Air dry.

For every other fabric, follow the care label sewn into the piece.

Still not sure

We have handled most of these pieces and can tell you how a particular style sits against the chart. Write to us before you order, or come and try it in Red Hill. The full edit is in our Second Female collection.
