Shirring is rows of elastic thread sewn through the cloth. It gathers the fabric and lets it stretch back. At the side of a tank it gives a plain shape a waist.

Vaenn knits it in superfine Australian merino, with a high scoop neck and a cropped body, in marble.

Early on a high summer morning, before the wind comes up, the bay is flat enough to swim off the back of a boat. The tank goes back on over a wet swimsuit and the boat stays out.
