Hold it up to a window and there is a haze sitting just off the surface of the knit.

That is mohair, from the angora goat, and it is the fibre that gives a cardigan its halo. On its own it has no recovery, so it is blended here with wool, which is what lets the rib hold instead of dropping out of shape by the second winter. Mother-of-pearl buttons, cut from shell, no two quite the same.

Beluga is deep grey-brown. It goes with black without matching it, which is the whole reason to own a colour like this.
