Cotton that feels cold in the hand is doing something structural.

Ice cotton is spun in Italy from long-staple fibre twisted under high tension. The tension pulls the surface flat and leaves almost nothing standing up off the yarn, so more of the cloth meets skin at once and heat moves away from it faster. That is the cold first contact. The same flatness is why it comes out of a bag without a crease in it. The feel is in the construction rather than in a finish, so there is nothing on it to wash out.

Christian Kimber cuts it as a long sleeve polo, which is the shape for the stretch of the year when a shirt is too much and a t-shirt is not enough. On its own it holds a collar. Under a jacket it does what a shirt does without the bulk at the cuff.
