Most knitting runs in columns, one direction, top to bottom. Basketweave interlocks across as well as down.

That does two things. It puts texture into a plain colour, which is why this navy has movement in it rather than sitting as a flat block. It gives the fabric more body than a jersey of the same weight, so the sweater holds a shoulder line instead of collapsing on the hanger. Knitted in Italy from 100% extra fine wool, ribbed at the neck, cuffs and hem.

A cellar door in July is whatever temperature the barrels want it to be, which is always colder than the room you walked out of. This is the weight that gets you through a tasting without needing a coat you then have to carry.
