Lavender in cashmere is a difficult colour, because the fibre takes dye so readily that pale shades go chalky in lesser wool.

Hand-combed Inner Mongolian cashmere holds it clean. Combing takes only the soft undercoat and leaves the guard hairs on the animal, which is slower than shearing and produces a fibre that does not pill.
