He trained in Germany, then travelled to Oman, India and Yemen to learn how attars are made. He spent years composing for Versace, Fendi, Helmut Lang and Diesel before leaving, because too many people had to approve the work. Nasomatto began in Amsterdam in 2007. What changes is the cap, cut from a different wood for each fragrance and chosen for that scent alone. Olive for Absinth. Wenge for Duro, because wenge is one of the hardest woods there is. Burnt oak for Black Afgano. Cork for Baraonda. A real pinecone for Micodelirio, no two the same. The woods come from wherever the right one happens to grow.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThirty millilitres, and why that is not small\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eEvery Nasomatto is extrait de parfum. Extrait carries roughly twenty to forty per cent perfume oil. An eau de parfum carries fifteen to twenty. An eau de toilette carries five to fifteen.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhich means a 30ml extrait holds about as much actual perfume as a 100ml eau de toilette, and often more. The bottle is smaller because the contents are not diluted. You are buying the perfume rather than the alcohol carrying it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt also changes how you wear it. One application, low on the skin, lasts the day. People move from three sprays to one within a week and the bottle outlives the eau de toilette it replaced.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eNo note lists\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eHe has never published one. Not for one fragrance, not in nearly twenty years. Each bottle carries a name, its cap and nothing else.
